Stay With Us
The Robinson Gay family home which is also a showplace for their artistry doubles as a small boutique hotel & country guest house. Standing alone in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Shieldhall Guesthouse overlooks the National Trust estate of Wallington, this charmingly restored 17th century house, and farm buildings were once home to the family of Capability Brown. Central for the coast, castles and the roman wall the entire farmstead has been recently converted with antique detail and fine touches.
Guests stay in the recently converted stone farm buildings, each with its own entrance into the front courtyard. Each en-suite bedroom is named after the wood used for the furniture and fittings within. The Oak Room, with a panelled four posted bed copied from the original in Lindisfarne Castle; The Mahogany Room, with colonial-style inlayed furniture; The Elm Room, with twin beds and furniture of a modern design and The Pine Rooms with traditionally fitted furniture.
Out of the courtyard and around the 10 acres of grounds is a mown walk through woodland and natural meadow. There is a lounge / library with views over the garden and a secret bar for visitors to enjoy.
Dinners are prepared from fresh seasonal and local produce and served at individual or collective tables. A well balanced menu of four courses is provided. Your own dietary requirements can be catered for and Shieldhall has a full residential drinks license with a small yet varied wine list.
